EYES ON ACHROMATIC CHRONICLES: GREEN
Achromatic Chronicles: Green shifts the spotlight from Jon to his best friend, Fortuna. What happened to Fortuna while Jon was off on adventures with Blue?
Our journey began in Achromatic Chronicles: Blue, where we met Jon, the “Question Boy”, a curious and adventurous soul trapped in the dull, repetitive world known as Gray World. His refusal to accept the monotony around him sets him apart, isolating him from others. Yet, his fearless questioning also awakens a similar spark in his best friend, Fortuna.
In Achromatic Chronicles: Green, the spotlight shifts from Jon to Fortuna, allowing her to step into her own story. This second installment in the planned six-part series gives us a fresh perspective on the Gray World, this time through Fortuna’s eyes. Unlike Jon, Fortuna has always tried to conform. She’s the perfect student, daughter, and friend. But beneath that surface lies a deep sense of loss: the disappearance or possible death of her mother, a wound her father refuses to speak about.
Every day, Fortuna escapes to the woods, the only place where she allows herself a small act of rebellion. It’s there that she encounters Green, a living color, embodied as a mysterious, talking spirit on a secret mission. Their meeting sets Fortuna on a transformative path of self-discovery. Together, they embark on an extraordinary journey that not only challenges the rules of the Gray World but also pushes Fortuna to discover her strength and step out of Jon’s shadow into her heroic tale.
THE CREATIVE TEAM
Achromatic Chronicles was written by Jay David, known as Drunk 3po, a YouTube personality commenting on pop-culture-related topics, world exploration & voluntary work, history of pirates, and politics. Aaron D’Anthony Brown is the co-writer, and Erik Hudson is the illustrator of the book, whose visual storytelling brings Gray World and its vibrant contrasts to life in a different style. The visual progression from grayscale to color reflects the characters’ growth and emotional awakening.
THE BOOKS
Achromatic Chronicles: Green is a 136-page, perfect-bound graphic novel printed on high-quality glossy paper, with a glossy soft cover and printed spine. The book is available in multiple formats:
- Standard Edition
- Linked Cover Edition (which visually connects with Blue)
- Collector’s Edition
- CGC Graded Slabbed Edition for collectors
These options reflect the growing popularity of the series and allow fans to choose the format that best suits their preferences. Notably, Blue has also been reprinted to match these new editions, allowing collectors to own consistent, complementary copies. It is an all-ages story, but most certainly a children’s book, generally for ages 10 through 12. The book consists of a title page, the main story, two advertisement pages for the Achromatic Chronicles products, and three advertisement pages for Rippasend.

ACHROMATIC CHRONICLES: GREEN
Achromatic Chronicles: Green redefines the journey from Achromatic Chronicles: Blue; it’s not just Jon’s tale anymore. Fortuna takes center stage, discovering her courage and purpose with the help of the enigmatic Green.
Fortuna appears to be the model citizen of the Gray World. She excels at school, follows the rules, and suppresses her doubts, not because she believes in the system, but because fear holds her back. Her mother was different. Her mother disappeared. No one, especially her father, will answer the lingering questions. What happened to her? Why won’t anyone talk about it?

In this oppressive silence, Fortuna learns to hide her uniqueness to stay safe. Her one secret rebellion is a daily walk into the nearby woods, a place where rules and routine do not reach. It is here she encounters the impossible: Green, a living embodiment of color with a voice and a mission. Fortuna’s disbelief quickly gives way to intrigue.
For the first time, she is given the chance to step outside her carefully constructed world and into an adventure that promises not only answers but transformation. Her journey with Green is one of courage, purpose, and ultimately, self-discovery.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Readers familiar with Achromatic Chronicles: Blue will recognize many of the series’ core themes, the value of friendship, the value of questioning more, being an outcast and confronting your fears, the journey of self-acceptance, and the courage to live life. However, in Achromatic Chronicles: Green, these ideas are reframed through Fortuna’s internal struggle.
FORTUNA’S JOURNEY
While Jon pushed outward against societal norms, Fortuna’s battle is within. Her journey underscores how fear and trauma can mask potential, and how even the most rule-abiding individuals carry quiet revolutions inside them.
Fortuna’s story doesn’t take away from Jon’s role; it actually adds more depth to the world of Achromatic Chronicles. In a way, Jon helped inspire her change. Through Fortuna, we learn that courage can look different for everyone. It’s not always about asking big questions; sometimes, it’s about being brave enough to hear the truth.

BLUE VS GREEN
While Achromatic Chronicles: Blue emphasized action and rebellion, Achromatic Chronicles: Green offers reflection and resilience. It invites readers to sit with uncertainty and face inner fears. The parallels between Jon’s and Fortuna’s paths enrich the emotional tapestry of the series. From questioning to healing, from fear to empowerment, the series shows us that color isn’t just visual, it’s symbolic of awakening.

The ART AND THE BOOK
This second volume offers notable improvements in both print quality; the glossy cover prevents hand prints and drink accidents, it has a copyright text, publisher info, and an ISBN bar code, compared to the first book. The new art style is perfect for Fortuna, enhancing the emotional impact of her journey. However, I still can’t tell who the letterer is, but in any case, job well done.

THE CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN
Unlike Achromatic Chronicles: Blue, which was crowdfunded through Indiegogo, Green was launched via Rippasend. Rippasend, owned by Eric July (creator of Isom), is a platform that not only handles crowdfunding campaign hosting and online sales but also fulfillment, publishing, storefront, customer service, and general consulting. It serves as an all-in-one solution for creators to distribute their products directly to supporters, offering a more streamlined and creator-controlled experience from launch to delivery.

THE CAMPAIGN
The campaign offered various tiers to support the project that, in addition to the book, also included a T-shirt, stress balls, and a coloring book. I chose to go back to the tier with the “linked covers” option that offered both Blue and Green with coordinated cover art.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Updates on the campaign were provided by Rippasend and the creator. The tracking number was provided timely and the packages arrived with no issues in good packaging. Unfortunately, this campaign had no bonus items.
I would have loved a Fortuna magnet to place next to Jon’s, a bookmark, and some prints. I noticed that more and more creators are choosing not to add bonus items anymore and giving the option to buy them instead of giving them for free.
Depending on what the bonus item is, it may have an impact on the delivery time of the books, and you also have those people who complain about the free stuff. Overall, the experience on the customer service experience was similar to that of Isom #1.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Achromatic Chronicles: Green is a beautifully illustrated and emotionally rich continuation of the series that invites readers to embrace the magic found in stepping beyond the familiar.
While primarily aimed at children, its themes of courage, individuality, and resilience resonate across all ages. The story blends a heartfelt narrative with vibrant artwork, creating an immersive reading experience that is both accessible and meaningful.
At its heart, Achromatic Chronicles: Green is a powerful tale of self-discovery. Fortuna emerges as a protagonist in her own right. Her transformation from a rule-follower to a courageous queen and questioning hero is inspiring.
Whether you’re returning to the series or discovering it for the first time, Achromatic Chronicles: Green is an enchanting read that celebrates the power of questions, the beauty of difference, and the strength it takes to forge your path. It’s a must-read for fans of heartfelt fantasy adventures and anyone who believes that even in a gray world, color and hope can always break through.
